Topic overview
This article describes the procedures for using the Identifiers application. The procedures contain instructions on how to enter or edit an identifier, for example. You will also be informed about possible prerequisites and effects.
The description of the Identifiers application, which also contains field and button descriptions, can be found in the Identifiers article.
Entering a new identifier

The item must be managed in the desired identifier.
Instructions
- Open the Identifiers application.
- In the identification pane, enter an item for which you want to create an attribute master record
- Select the [New] button in the standard toolbar
The specified item is validated for correctness. Once the item has been successfully validated, the input fields are emptied or filled with default values depending on the settings in the Items application and in the Customizing application → Identifiers function.
- Enter a unique identification for the new identifier in the Identifiers field
- Enter a name for the new identifier in the Description field. If required, you can also enter translations in other languages.
- If required, enter further data for the new identifier in the displayed groupings
- Select the [Save] button in the standard toolbar
The data entered is validated for correctness. After a successful validation, the new specification is saved.

The item must be managed in the desired identifier.
Instructions
- Open the Identifiers application
- In the identification pane, enter the item and the identifier that you want to duplicate

The Identifier field is cleared.
- Enter the identification of the new identifier in the Characteristic field
- If necessary, change the other fields of the identifier
- Select the [Save] button in the standard toolbar
The changed data is validated for correctness. After a successful validation, the new identifier is saved.
If you change the item after duplicating it, you cannot save the duplicate.
