Edit inventory posting errors automatically

Topic overview

The batch application Edit inventory posting error automatically is used to automatically regenerate inventory postings from the posting error log whose data is now correct. Below you will find, among other things, descriptions of how to use the batch application and its actions and parameters. You will also be informed about possible preconditions and effects for running the batch application.

Definitions of terms

Background application
A background application is an application that is run without interaction with a user. It can be opened either by a batch job, a CORBA call-up, or another application.

Batch job
A batch job includes the necessary data for delayed execution of a batch application in a processing queue.

Inventory postings
Inventory posting is carried out in order to document all quantity and value transactions within inventory management. In the process of inventory posting, inventory is updated and evaluated depending on the posting key used.

Posting error log
The posting error log records incorrect inventory postings. Incorrect inventory postings can occur during automatic posting generation. An incorrect posting remains in the posting error log until it has been corrected and manually posted. Before period-end closing, the posting error log must be empty.

Application description

With this application, you can automatically regenerate those inventory postings from the posting error log whose data is now correct. This means that you do not have to process these inventory postings individually in the posting error log. The system automatically generates new inventory postings for the entries in the posting error log that are no longer incorrect, for example due to changes to master data or inventory. These entries are deleted from the posting error log, but the data is not corrected. If the system cannot process an inventory posting because the data is still incorrect, the entry remains in the posting error log.

You can call up the application either directly via the background application Edit inventory posting errors automatically or via the Cockpit: Inventory posting errors application.

The posting error log can only be edited by one process at a time. For example, if a user opened the Inventory postings application in the Posting error log view, the posting error log cannot be edited simultaneously by the background application Edit inventory posting errors automatically.

The batch application is executed via a batch job, unless the Immediately start type has been selected. Further information on batch jobs can be found in the Batch jobs article.

Note
We recommend that you do not schedule the batch application as a series so that you can look at the entries in the posting error log before each start of the application and find out their causes. You may recognize errors in technical processes that you can correct to avoid further unnecessary inventory posting errors.

Actions

The batch application does not provide any actions.
