Topic overview
This document describes the Selection definitions application. Selection definitions are used, for example, in report applications, when making proposals in payment transactions, in dunning, in OI cleansing, etc. Depending on the respective application, selection definitions contain the characteristics you specify for data selection, sorting, summation and output settings. You can create and save any number of selection definitions for an application. Depending on the requirement, for example, open items can be evaluated according to different attributes.
Application description
You can use the Selection definitions query application to get an overview of all or individual selection definitions. All selection definitions that correspond to the search characteristics of the query pane are displayed.
Use the application-related action [Start application] to switch to the application in which the selected selection definition was created.
The Selection definitions application consists of a query pane and a work pane.
Query pane
If necessary, you can enter search criteria in the query pane and then use the [Update] action to retrieve the data from the system and have it displayed in the work pane.
The fields in detail:
- Definiton – the name identifies the selection clearly. The naming is possible with both digits and letters.
- Description – the description serves as an additional identifier. Enter a meaningful, memorable and possibly a unique description for the search is made easier after that. However, the same description can also exist several times. The description can be entered in several languages.
- Display parameters – you can use this search field to control whether, for example, all or only the selection definitions should be selected for the display for which the Display parameters indicator is activated. Valid values are:
- Yes – only the selection definitions should be selected for display for which the Display parameters flag is activated.
- No – only the selection definitions should be selected for display for which the Display parameters indicator is not activated.
- Ignore – the Show parameters indicator should not be taken into account when making a selection.
- Application type – in this field, select one or more applications as search criteria for the selection definitions to be displayed. The following settings can be selected:
- (All)
- Defined reports output
- Output dunning
- Output payments
- Balance cost type reports
- Output sums and balances object accounts
- Output controlling postings
- Assets analysis reports
- … and others
- Deletion state – in this field, select the selection definitions to be displayed based on their deletion indicator. The following settings can be selected:
- (All)
- Marked as deleted
- Not marked for deletion
Work pane
The work pane of the application consists of a table in which the queried selection definitions are displayed.
- Definition – the identification of the selection definition is displayed in this column.
- Description – the designation of the selection definition is displayed in this column.
- Application – this column shows the application for which the selection definition was created.
- Display parameter – this column shows whether the selection parameters are printed or displayed.
Application related action
In the Selection definition application, the following application-related action is available on the action role:
- Start application
Start application
When you call this action, you switch to the application for a previously marked selection definition for which the selection definition was created. Here you can revise the information stored in the selection definition or perform the action available in the application.
Customizing
No settings need to be made for the Selection definitions application in the Customizing application.

The following business entity is relevant for the Selection definitions application that you use, for instance, for:

Authorizations
Authorizations can be assigned by means of authorization roles as well as by assigning an organization. More about the authorization concept can be found in the technical document Authorizations.
Special capabilities
The Selection definitions application has no special capabilities.
Organizational assignments
If the Content-based authorizations function is activated in the Customizing application, a person can only use the Selection definitions application if an organization that is linked to at least one of the following organizational structures has been assigned to him or her in the partner master data:

There are no special features for the Selection definitions application.
Authorizations for business partners
The Selection definitions application is not released for business partners.
