Cockpit: Cost unit rate history

Topic overview

The Cockpit: Cost unit rate history application is used to search for and display historicized cost rates. Historized cost rates can be used in product costing to calculate operations.

Definitions

Cost rate

Cost rates are used in cost accounting or preliminary costing to evaluate the internal activities of cost centers. Cost rates can be used on the one hand to depict the service relationships between cost centers and on the other hand to allocate costs to the respective cost object. The unit in which the costs of the cost rates are recorded in a cost center is determined by the activity type.

Commercial calculations

With trade costing, sales prices of a sales item are calculated based on a price from a procurement price list. Conversely, procurement prices can also be calculated on the basis of a price from a sales price list.

Calculations

Costing is understood to mean both product costing and commercial costing. Both types of costing are based on costing sheets.

Calculation schemes

In costing sheets, costing procedures can be defined for various industries by freely assigning cost shares to costing items and arranging and structuring the costing items as required. A complex set of calculations can be set up within the costing sheets using formula relationships. This makes it possible, among other things, to add and deduct any amount as a percentage of another costing item or as an absolute amount.

Calculation items

Costing items are the components from which costing sheets and thus the cost estimates are constructed. Within the costing sheets, a complex set of calculations can be created using formula relationships in costing items, e.g. any additions and deductions as a percentage of another costing item or as an absolute amount.

Product costing

Product costing is used to determine the target costs (manufacturing costs, cost of goods sold, etc.) of an item based on its target production structures (bills of materials, routings, production plans). Product costing can be carried out according to the aspects of production or cost accounting.

Application description

The application consists of a query area and a work area. You can use all fields in the query area as search features. The work area contains a table with the columns for the cost rates. The corresponding cost rates are displayed there.

Query area

Query fields are stored in the query area. As a rule, the most important query fields are already available. However, the number of query fields and their placement can vary.

The query area is the same for all views of the workspace. You can determine which query fields are displayed.

All essential query fields are listed below. If additional fields are added, you will find their description in the direct help:

  • Cost center – specify a cost center as a search characteristic if needed. Objects matching this criterion will appear in the workspace.
  • Service type – specify an activity type as a search characteristic if needed. Objects matching this criterion will appear in the workspace.
  • Cost rate usage – select a cost rate usage as a search feature. Options include:
    • plan
    • is
    • calculation 1
    • calculation 2
    • calculation 3
objects matching this feature will appear in the workspace.
  • Cost type – enter a cost element as a search characteristic if needed. Objects matching this criterion will appear in the workspace.
  • Cost unit rate valid from – enter a valid from date for the cost rate as a search characteristic if needed. Objects matching this criterion will appear in the workspace.
  • Cost unit rate valid up to – enter a valid to date for the cost rate as a search characteristic if needed. Objects matching this criterion will appear in the workspace.
  • Price valid from – enter a valid from price date for the historicized cost records as a search characteristic if needed. Objects matching this criterion will appear in the workspace.
  • Price valid to – if required, enter a valid to price date for the historicized cost records as a search characteristic. All objects that match this search criterion are displayed in the workspace.

Work area

A table is available in the work area in which the queried cost rates are displayed. You can determine yourself which information is displayed for a cost rate. Several views can be created to view a cost rate in different ways with different information.

Standard view

All the main table columns in the Standard view are described below. If additional columns are added, you will find their description in the direct help:

  • Cost center – the cost center is displayed in this column.
  • Service type – the service type is displayed in this column.
  • Cost unit rate usage – this column shows the cost rate utilization.
  • Cost type – the cost type is displayed in this column.
  • Cost unit rate valid from – the valid from date of the cost rates is displayed in this column.
  • Cost unit rate valid up to – the valid until date of the cost rates is displayed in this column.
  • Price valid from – the valid from date for the historicized cost rates is displayed in this column.
  • Price valid until – the valid to date for the historicized cost rates is displayed in this column.
  • Costs – the costs are displayed in this column.
  • Valid – an icon in this column indicates whether the cost rate is valid.
