Topic overview
The Cockpit: Item characteristics application is primarily used to query item characteristics via their basic information, such as the identification or the characteristic category. You can use this application to obtain an overview of the item characteristics recorded. In addition, further actions can be carried out from the application for one or more item characteristics, such as emptying or releasing the destination data.
For a general description of all cockpit applications, including information on the usual handling of the query and work panes, see the Cockpits article. For information on customizing, business entities, and authorizations, see the Item characteristics article, which describes the application. The following article, in turn, discusses topics that apply specifically to the Cockpit: Item characteristics application.
Application description
You can use the Cockpit: Item characteristics query application to obtain an overview of all or selected item characteristics. Further editing options are also available. For instance, you can:
- Switch via the item characteristic to the Item characteristics application for further editing of the characteristic
- Execute application-related actions.
The application consists of a query pane and a work pane.
Query pane
The query pane is used to store query fields. As a rule, the most important query fields are already provided. However, the number of query fields and their placement can vary.
The query pane is saved per view. You can determine which query fields are displayed. To do this, select the desired query fields from a list of fields. Usually you can find a full description of the query fields in the What’s this help.
For a general description of query fields, see the Cockpits article.
Further information can be found in the Item characteristics article.
Detail searches
Furthermore, a detail search can be used in addition to the main search with query fields in the query pane. Detail searches can be combined with the main search so that both the search criteria from the query pane and the search criteria of the detail search can be analyzed as AND link. To combine them, a checkbox is available in the grouping line of the detail search. In order to display corresponding results in the work pane, as well, a button is available carrying the name of the detail search. If this button is activated, another heading line will appear in the work pane, including relevant detailed information.
The following detail searches are available:
- Destination data
- Classifications
Work pane
A table is available in the work pane in which the queried item characteristics are displayed. You can determine yourself which information is displayed for an item characteristic. Several views can be created to view an item characteristic in different ways with different information.
If you have also activated a detail search button, the table contains an additional heading line and detailed information.
For a general description of the work pane, see the Cockpits article.
Further information can be found in the Item characteristics article.
Application-related actions
The application-related actions of the Cockpit: Item characteristics application are described in the following sections:
- [Suggest destination data…] action
- [Empty destination data…] action
- [Release destination data…] action
- [Remove the release of destination data…] action
[Suggest destination data…] action
Using the [Suggest destination data…] action in the standard toolbar under the [Actions] button, you can have the system suggest the destination data for the conversion of the following characteristic categories to the Local characteristic category:
- Global
- Group
The precondition is that the existing item characteristic is assigned to exactly one classification and the status No destination data exist is assigned for the destination data status.
In this case, the destination characteristic category is changed to Local and the destination classification is assigned the classification used. In addition, the destination data status changes to Destination data in process.
Please note that after executing this action, the proposed changes must be released using the [Release destination data…] action so that the changes can be processed when the batch application Accept item characteristic destination data is executed.
[Empty destination data…] action
You can use the [Empty destination data…] action to have the system clear the entered destination data. The following destination data is removed again:
- Destination characteristic category
- Destination characteristic group
- Destination classification
The precondition is that the item characteristic is marked with the status Destination data in process. After successfully executing this action, the destination data status changes to No destination data exist.
[Release destination data…] action
You can use the [Release destination data…] action under the [Actions] button in the standard toolbar to release the entered destination data. With the release, you can enable the processing of the destination data by executing the batch application Accept item characteristic destination data.
After you have released the destination data with this action, the destination data status changes to Release destination data and the destination data of the item characteristic and the current meta data (source meta data) cannot be edited. To resume editing, you can use the [Remove the release of destination data…] action. If required, please note the necessary preconditions, which you can find in the description of the corresponding action.
[Remove the release of destination data…] action
You can use the [Remove the release of destination data…] action under the [Actions] button in the standard toolbar to unlock the entered destination data. You can resume processing the destination data by canceling the release. The precondition is that the processing of the destination data is open due to the execution of the batch application Accept item characteristic destination data. This is the case if the destination data transfer status is No transfer in process. In all other cases, this action cannot be executed and the processing of the destination data must be waited for before the item characteristic can be changed again.
After you have canceled the release of the destination data with this action, the destination data status changes to Destination data in process and the item characteristic data can be edited again.
Accept item characteristic destination data batch application
The batch application Accept item characteristic destination data is used to process the destination data entered for item characteristics. Please note that this batch application can only be executed once at a time and therefore cannot be started multiple times before the execution is complete. Please also note that the applications Accept item characteristic destination data and Reorganize item characteristic assignments/dynamic objects cannot be executed at the same time.
Further information can be found in the article Batch application: Accept item characteristic destination data.
