Topic overview
This article describes the procedures for using the Availability rules application. The procedures contain instructions on how to enter or edit an availability rule, for example. You will also be informed about possible preconditions and effects.

Entering a new availability rule
When an availability rule is entered, one line per item category is automatically proposed without reference to a type. The item categories include sales quotation, sales order, production order, inventory requisition (if storage location control is active in Customizing), purchase order, distribution order (in multi-site environments), delivery order.
Instructions
- Open the Availability rules application
- Select the [New] button in the standard toolbar
- The application switches to New mode
- The fields and checkboxes are provided with default values. In the table for the Rules, rows are added for the order categories that have no reference to an order category and provided with default values.
- Enter a unique identification for the new availability rule in the Availability rule field
- Enter the name of the new availability rule in the Description field
- Use the checkbox to activate or deactivate the Include quarantined inventory parameter. This allows you to set whether inventory with the QA status In quarantine should be taken into account during the availability check.
- Use the checkbox to activate or deactivate the Include blocked inventory parameter. This allows you to set whether stock with the QA status Blocked should be taken into account during the availability check.
- If necessary, change the default values in the Calculation, Back orders and Display columns in the table under the Rules tab in the work pane. These fields cannot be edited for entries of the Inventory requisition item category.
- Save the new availability rule by selecting the [Save] button in the standard toolbar
- The new availability rule is saved.
Duplicating availability rule
- Open the Availability rules application
- Open the availability rule that you want to use as a template for duplicating
- Select the [Duplicate] button in the standard toolbar
- The application switches to New mode
- The data from the identification and work panes of the previously opened availability rule has been duplicated. The identification from the Availability rule field is not duplicated, the field is emptied.
- Enter a unique identification for the new availability rule in the Availability rule field
- If necessary, change the data and settings of the new availability rule
- Save the new availability rule by selecting the [Save] button in the standard toolbar
- The new availability rule is saved.
Opening and editing availability rule
- Open the Availability rules application
- Enter the identification of the availability rule in the Availability rule field
- Select the [Refresh] button in the standard toolbar
- The availability rule is displayed.
- Change the settings and rules if necessary
- Save the availability rule by selecting the [Save] button in the standard toolbar
- The changes to the availability rule are saved.
Deleting availability rule
Preconditions
You can only delete an availability rule if it is not being used. It is in use if the availability rule:
- was specified in the Customizing application,
- is assigned to a sales order type,
- is assigned to a sales quotation type or
- is assigned to material requirements planning.
Instructions
- Open the Availability rules application
- Delete the availability rule by selecting the [Delete] button in the standard toolbar
- The availability rule is deleted.
Adding voucher type-related rule
- Open the Availability rules application
- Open the availability rule to which you want to add an order type-related rule
- Open the menu for the [New] button in the toolbar under the Rules tab
- The menu for the [New] button contains entries for selecting the respective voucher category: sales quotation, sales order, production order, inventory requisition (if storage location control is active in Customizing), purchase order, distribution order (in multi-site environments), delivery order.
- Select the voucher category in the [New] button menu for which you want to create a new rule
- A new row for the selected voucher category is added to the table. The tooltip for the [New] button informs you about the selected voucher category.
- In the Type column, enter the type of voucher category for which you want to define a rule
- Enter the status for which the order line items are to be taken into account during the availability check. This field cannot be edited for entries of the voucher category Inventory requisition.
- Enter the status for which the back orders are to be taken into account during the availability check. This field cannot be edited for entries of the voucher category Inventory requisition.
- Enter the status at which the order line items should be displayed in the Origin view of the Availability query application. This field cannot be edited for entries of the voucher category Inventory requisition.
- If necessary, repeat the instruction steps from 3. if you want to add more than one voucher category-related rule to the availability rule
- Save the availability rule by selecting the [Save] button in the standard toolbar
- All newly added rules are saved with the availability rule.
Deleting voucher category-related rule
- Open the Availability rules application
- Open the availability rule in which you want to delete an order category-related rule
- Select the rule you want to delete in the table under the Rules tab
- Select the [Delete] button under the Rules tab in the table toolbar
- The line is marked for deletion.
- If necessary, repeat the instruction steps from 3. if you want to delete more than one rule
- Save the availability rule by selecting the [Save] button in the standard toolbar
- All rules marked for deletion are deleted.
