Creating an inventory posting
You can use the Inventory postings application to create inventory postings in the Inventory posting view.
Preconditions
The inventory management server for the warehouse used must be active. The inventory management server is started via the Inventory management server application. You can find more details in the Inventory management server article. If the inventory management server is not started, the inventory posting can be created in some cases, but any quantity changes and inventory valuation will only take place when the inventory management server is active. When using subdivided warehouses, it is also not possible to enter the inventory posting if the inventory management server is not active.
Instructions
- Open the Inventory postings application
- If necessary, switch to the Inventory posting view
- Enter the desired values in the Item or Loading unit, Posting key, Warehouse and Warehouse zone fields of the identification pane. You can optionally change the proposed posting date and the proposed destination inventory owner. You only need to complete the Source inventory owner field if this is different from the destination inventory owner. The Posting reason field is optional. The Special process field is preset with the value None; if you require a special process with voucher update or want to attack a voucherless requirement, you must select this accordingly.
- Select the [Save] button in the standard toolbar
- The system then validates the specified data and issues corresponding error messages if the specified data is incorrect. If the data entered is correct, the work pane is opened below the identification pane, in which you can enter further details for the inventory posting. The fields displayed depend on the values entered in the Item or Loading unit, Posting key, Warehouse, Warehouse zone and Special process fields.
The source inventory owner is entered in the Destination inventory owner field if the field was empty before the button was selected.
- Enter the desired quantity in the Quantity field. If the item has parallel storage units, you must also enter the quantity in these storage units.
- If necessary, fill in the other fields displayed. As already mentioned, the display of the other fields depends on the values specified in the identification pane.
- Select the [Save] button in the standard toolbar.
- The system also carries out a validation of the specified data here and, in the event of an error, corresponding error messages are displayed. If the data entered is correct, the inventory posting is generated.
Correcting an incorrect inventory posting
Preconditions
The same preconditions apply here as when creating inventory postings. This means that if an inventory management server is not active, it may be possible to correct and cancel an incorrect inventory posting. However, a quantity change and inventory valuation only takes place if the relevant inventory management server is activated. Correcting inventory postings with zone or location details is only possible if the inventory management server is active.
Instructions
- Open the Inventory postings application
- Switch to the Posting error log view
- The identification pane now displays the basic data. If the basic pane is correct, the work pane is displayed below the identification pane, in which you can correct wrong information on the inventory posting. If the data in the identification pane is incorrect, you must first correct the error in the basic data displayed there before you can display the work pane. In both cases, the cause of the error is displayed as an error message.
