Procedures: Inventory value query

Topic overview

This article describes the procedures for using the Inventory value query application. The procedures contain instruction steps with which you can, for example, query the inventory values for an item account. You will also be informed about possible preconditions and effects.

The description of the Inventory value query application, which also includes field and button descriptions, can be found in the Inventory value query article.

Procedures

Read below how to work with the Inventory value query application:

Query current item values

Precondtions

A query of the current item values requires that the valuation method has been activated in the Customizing moving average price application.

Note
Please note that a query of the current item values may not yet have access to all valuation-relevant information because, for example, the inventory management server is closed and may therefore deliver incorrect results. Another reason for a missing inventory posting could be that a posting has not yet been processed or has not been processed correctly and has been stored in the error posting log.
Instructions
  1. Open the Inventory value query application
  2. Switch to the Item values current view
  3. Enter a warehouse item number in the Item query field and restrict the warehouse if necessary
  4. Select the [Refresh] button in the standard toolbar
    • The inventory values of the selected item are displayed in the work pane.
In the work pane, you can use the [Warehouse information] button to display the current warehouse inventories and inventory values individually.
  1. Repeat the query as often as required. To do this, change or add to the query criteria in the query pane and select the [Refresh] button again.
Note
When switching between views, the query fields Item, Posting period and Warehouse are passed on to the next view. If the check of the transferred query fields in the new view is successful, the data is immediately loaded into the work pane. The described automatism is particularly useful when switching between the Item values current, Item values periodic and Item account views.

Query periodic item values

Precondtions

A query of the period-related item values according to a specific valuation method requires that the valuation method has been activated in the Customizing application. If the valuation method has not been activated, the Valuation methods query field in the Inventory value query application, Item values periodic view is also not available.

If the inventory values are queried in the Item values periodic view using a valuation method other than the moving average price, you should ensure that an inventory valuation has already been carried out for the posting period in the Calculate inventory values application. Otherwise, the query may not provide up-to-date results.

During period-end closing, the period-end values of the posting period to be closed are transferred to the period-initial values of the subsequent posting period for the moving average price. This ensures that period-related inventory values are also available for items for which no inventory posting was made in this posting period.

Note
Please note that a query of the periodic item values for a posting period whose predecessor has not yet been completed (even if this posting period is in the past) does not have access to all valuation-relevant information and could therefore deliver incorrect results. Another reason for a missing inventory posting could be that a posting has not yet been processed or has not been processed correctly and has been stored in the error posting log.
Instructions
  1. Open the Inventory value query application
  2. Switch to the Item values periodic view
  3. Enter a warehouse item number in the Items query field, select the desired posting period and, if necessary, restrict the warehouse and valuation method
  4. Select the [Refresh] button in the standard toolbar
    • The inventory values of the selected item are displayed in the work pane.
In the work pane, you can use the [Warehouse information] button to display the periodized warehouse inventories and inventory values individually.
  1. Repeat the query as often as required. To do this, change or add to the query criteria in the query pane and select the [Refresh] button again.

When switching between views, the query fields Item, Posting period and Warehouse are passed on to the next view. If the check of the transferred query fields in the new view is successful, the data is immediately loaded into the work pane. The described automatism is particularly useful when switching between the views Item values periodic, Item values current and Item account.

Query inventory account

Instructions
  1. Open the Inventory value query application
  2. Switch to the Inventory account view
  3. Enter an account number in the Inventory account query field, select the desired posting period and, if necessary, restrict the warehouse location.
  4. Select the [Refresh] button in the standard toolbar
    • The inventory values of the selected inventory account are displayed in the work pane.
In the work pane, you can use the [Posting information] button to display the periodized warehouse inventory values individually.
The described automatism is particularly useful when switching between the views Item values current, Item values periodic and Item account.

Query item account

Precondtions

During a period-end closing, the period-end values of the posting period to be closed are transferred to the period-initial values of the subsequent posting period for the moving average price. This ensures that period-related inventory values are also available for items for which no inventory posting was made in this posting period.

Note
Please note that a query of the item account data for a posting period whose predecessor has not yet been completed (even if this posting period is in the past) does not have access to all valuation-relevant information and could therefore deliver incorrect results. Another reason for a missing inventory posting could be that a posting has not yet been processed or has not been processed correctly and has been stored in the error posting log.
Instructions
  1. Open the Inventory value query application
  2. Switch to the Item account view
  3. Enter a warehouse item number in the Item query field, select the desired posting period and, if necessary, restrict the warehouse and the posting date
  4. Select the [Refresh] button in the standard toolbar
    • The inventory transactions of the selected item account are displayed in the work pane.
In the work pane, you can use the [Unassignable values] button to display any existing unassignable values of the detailed inventory posting in an additional line. This line, which is only expanded as required, is also marked with the constant Unassignable.
