Topic overview
With the use of put-away restrictions, you can enter the warehouse zones that are excluded from the put-away. The put-away restriction can also specify the sequence in which the individual warehouse zones and rows are considered.
In this article describes how the Putaway restrictions application is structured. For instructions on working with put-away restrictions, see the article Procedures: Put-away restrictions.
Definitions of terms
Random put-away
Random put-away is a put-away category for putting away items or loading units. When using this put-away category, all rows are considered, even those excluded by a put-away restriction.
Warehouses
A warehouse is a logically or physically defined area in which item inventory is maintained. A warehouse can be subdivided into storage locations if storage location control is enabled in Customizing. The exact structure of the warehouse is defined by the warehouse organization.
Storage restrictions
A storage restriction consists of a put-away and a withdrawal restriction. It sets which storage locations are excluded when determining storage locations and item inventories in put-away and withdrawal. A storage restriction can also
specify the sequence in which the individual warehouse zones of a warehouse are considered. Using the withdrawal restriction, inventory units can be specified in which withdrawal is allowed or prohibited.
Warehouse zones
If storage location control is activated in the Customizing application, a warehouse can be subdivided into warehouse zones. A warehouse can have any number of warehouse zones.
Application description
The Put-away restrictions application is used to create and edit put-away restrictions. It is only available if the storage location control is activated in the Customizing application.
The application consists of an identification pane and a work pane.
Identification pane
The identification area contains the fields that uniquely identify the put-away restriction as well as other generally applicable data.
The field contents are described in detail below:
Put-away restriction – enter a unique identification of the put-away restriction in this field. The identification
is used for finding the correct put-away restriction in other applications. It consists of up to 25 numbers, letters or a number-letter combination.
With the use of put-away restrictions, you can enter the warehouse zones that are excluded from the put-away. The put-away restriction can also specify the sequence in which the individual warehouse zones and their rows are considered.
Put-away restrictions are relevant only for determination of storage locations through the put-away logic. If a specific storage location is specified in an inventory requisition or a manually entered inventory posting, it is not taken into consideration.
After saving the put-away restriction for the first time, the identification cannot be changed anymore.
The putaway restrictions are entered on a client-specific basis.
Description – the description is an additional name for the put-away restriction. Its text can be chosen. Meaningful descriptions simplify the search of the correct put-away restriction for the user. The use of an underscore in a search feature would not only search for the underscore, but for any character. The percentage sign is evaluated in the same way, which then corresponds to none, one or more characters. The use of underscores and percent signs in character strings should therefore be avoided as far as possible, as other and more objects may be found than intended.
Warehouse – in this field, you can specify the warehouse for which you want to define the sequence in which the
put-away logic takes the warehouse zone and rows into account.
Work area
In this work pane, specify in which sequence for the relevant warehouse the put-away logic takes the associated warehouse zones and rows into account.
The columns in detail:
Warehouse zone – this column displays the warehouse zones of the warehouse for which one of the following utilizations has been defined:
- Not specified
- Reserve
- Picking
- Issue of goods
The warehouse zones are displayed in alphabetical order according to their identification.
Row – in this column, all rows of the displayed warehouse zones are displayed in alphabetical order. If the warehouse organization of the warehouse zone does not provide for utilization of rows, rows are not displayed. However, they can nevertheless specify a sequence for the warehouse zone.
Sequence – in this field, enter the sequence in which the putaway logic takes the warehouse zone or the row into account. Positive integers and the zero number (0) are allowed. The sequence has the following effect on determination of storage locations through the put-away logic:
- Warehouse zones:
All warehouse zones with a sequence greater than zero (0) are taken into account for the putaway in ascending order. If two warehouse zones show the same value, it is not specified which one of them is taken into account as the first one.
Warehouse zones with the sequence zero (0) are not taken into account. - Rows:
All rows of a warehouse zone are taken into account for the put-away in ascending order. If two rows the same value, it is not specified which one of them is taken into account as the first one.
If the Random function is activated, rows with the zero value are also taken into consideration. If the function is not activated, rows with the zero value are not taken into account for putaway.
Random (checkbox) – you can use this option to specify whether the put-away in the warehouse zone should be executed on a random basis.
In the case of random put-away, all rows of the warehouse zone are taken into account in the specified order. Those with the defined zero (0) sequence are also included. If the random put-away is not used, only rows with a sequence greater than zero (0) are taken into consideration.
Customizing
The Put-away restrictions application is only available if the Storage location control function is activated in the Customizing application.
The Put-away restrictions application does not need any other settings in the Customizing application.
