Topic overview
This article describes how storage unit lists are mapped in the system and how the application of the same name is structured. You will also learn about the relationship between a storage unit list and other applications and business entities and how it is connected with the business processes.
For instructions on working with storage unit lists, e.g., how you can create or edit storage unit lists, see the article Procedures: Storage unit lists.
For instructions on generating a storage unit list, see the article Procedures: Inventory query at storage locations.
Definitions of terms
Warehouses
A warehouse is a logically or physically defined area where items are stored. A warehouse is always assigned to a site. If the Storage location control is activated in the Customizing application, the warehouse can be additionally subdivided into warehouse zones and storage locations. The exact structure of the warehouse is defined by the warehouse organization.
Storage unit
Storage unit is a general term for the storage and packaging materials used during storage, transport and shipping of items. Storage units are items in the Material category.
Application description
The Storage unit lists application is used to view, edit, output or close existing storage unit lists. The application consists of an identification pane and a work pane.
Identification pane
The identification pane contains the fields that uniquely identify a storage unit list. The contents of the fields are described below.
Storage unit list – this field displays the unique identification of the storage unit list. The identification is used to find
the storage unit list in other applications.
When generating the storage unit list in the Inventory query at storage locations application, Empty storage units view, the identification is generated automatically, based on the number range defined in the Customizing application.
The identification cannot be assigned manually or changed retrospectively.
Status – this field displays the current status of the storage unit list with a symbol and a tool tip. The following statuses are possible:
Storage unit list generated
Closing in process
Storage unit list closed
Date – this field displays the date on which the storage unit list was generated.
Warehouse – this field displays the warehouse for which the storage unit list was generated.
You cannot change the warehouse.
Work pane
All line items of a storage unit list are displayed in the work pane. Each line item contains information on the city where an empty storage unit is stored. A storage unit list contains maximally only information on the storage sites where empty storage units are stored that could be taken into consideration upon generation of the storage unit list.
Detailed description of fields:
Line item – this column displays the number of the storage unit list line item.
Storage location – this column displays the storage site where the empty storage unit is stored.
Storage unit – this field displays the empty storage unit.
Removed – using this check box, you can decide if the empty storage unit should be removed from the current
storage site upon closing of the storage unit list. The check box can be changed only as long as the storage unit list has the Storage unit list generated status.
Status – displays the status of the line item. The following statuses are possible:
Line item generated
Line item posted, storage unit removed
Line item posted, storage unit not removed
Inventory changed, removal not possible
Application-related actions
The following application-based actions are available in the Storage unit lists application:
[Output storage unit list] action
Using the [Output storage unit list] action, you can output a copy of the storage unit list on an output medium of your choice, e.g., a printer.
[Close] action
With the [Close] action, closing of the currently displayed storage unit list is activated. Upon closing of the storage unit list, possibly empty storage units are removed according to the line items. The line items are processed and the storage units are removed with the use of the inventory management server. In order to provide for successful closing of a storage unit list, the inventory management server of the affiliated warehouse must be active.
Status and status changes
The storage unit list and its line items can show the status entered in the table.
Detailed status of the storage unit list:
Storage unit list generated – the storage unit list receives this status after being newly generated. In this status, the storage unit list is available for editing.
Closing in process – this status indicates that closing of the storage unit list has been activated and processing of the individual line items of the storage unit list has already begun, but has not been closed yet.
Storage unit list closed – this status indicates that all line items of the storage unit list have already been processed.
Detailed status of the storage unit list line items:
Line item generated – a newly generated line item, which has not yet been taken into consideration for closing of the
storage unit list, displays this status.
Line item posted, storage unit removed – this status indicates that the line item has already been taken into consideration for closing of the storage unit list and that the empty storage unit has been successfully removed when processing the line item.
Line item posted, storage unit not removed – this status indicates that the line item has already been successfully taken into consideration for closing of the storage unit list, but the empty storage unit has not been removed because the Removed check box was not active in the line item.
Inventory changed, removal not possible – this status indicates that the line item has already been taken into consideration for closing of the storage unit list, but the storage could not be removed because, for instance, the storage unit has been refilled in the meantime, due to which removal was not possible.
