Rounding of cash payments for the Swiss market

In Switzerland, the smallest denomination in circulation is the 5 rappen coin. This means that cash payments must be rounded to the nearest value divisible by 5 rappen. For example, if the bill amounts to 999,99 CHF, a customer paying in cash will have to pay 1000 CHF. However, in the case of non-cash payments (bank transfers, payment cards), it is possible to settle any amount, without rounding. In stores, retail prices (including VAT) are usually rounded to the nearest 5 rappen. Nevertheless, while selling weighed goods, calculating discounts, or in other cases, the final value of an item may differ from a multiple of 5 rappen.

To activate the rounding feature, go to the Customizing application → Multi-channel sales function → Comarch Retail POS sub-function → Finances, accounting tab and select the Swiss payment rounding option in the Rounding Rules field.

Cash payment rounding is supported for the following document types:

  • Receipt
  • Invoice
  • Receipt correction
  • Invoice correction
Note
Rounding is not supported in manual deposit and cash withdrawal documents.

Depending on the rounding (down/up), an arrow icon will be displayed in the document with information about the rounding direction and the rounding amount:

  • (↑0,01) – rounding up by 0,01
  • (↓0,01) – rounding down by 0,01
Example
The amount due calculated in a trade document is 16.97 CHF.

The application automatically rounds down the document value to 16.95 CHF. Additionally, an arrow symbol appears next to the Change field in the bottom right corner of the payment window, indicating the rounding direction.

Example
The amount due calculated in a trade document is 16,99 CHF.

The application automatically rounds up the document value to 17,00 CHF. Additionally, an arrow symbol appears next to the Change field in the bottom right corner of the payment window, indicating the rounding direction.

Example
VAT aggregation: VAT on total value

VAT direction: On subtotal

A receipt contains the following items:

  • Two pieces of item A1 with the regular price of 169,00 (per item, including VAT), the VAT rate of 2,5%, and a 7,5% discount
  • 0,542 kg of item B1 with the regular price of 12,50 (per kg, including VAT), the VAT rate of 7,7%, and no discount

The discount on the first item is calculated as:

Therefore, the discounted value of the first item is 169,00 – 12,67 = 156,33 (regular price including VAT for one item).

The total document item value = 156,33*2 = 312,66.

The value of the second item is:

After summing up, the document value is: 319,43.

Rounded to the nearest 5 rappen, the document value is: 319,40.

Quantity x Price = Value parameter

In the Swiss market, the Quantity x Price = Value validation is not performed. Discounts in the Swiss and German markets are calculated based on value, rather than price.

The parameter validating whether Quantity x Price = Value in the POS database is always inactive if the rounding feature is activated for the Swiss market. In such a case, the application does not check whether Quantity x Price (discounted) = Value; the calculated item value is set.
